candles_light was right on the mark

candles_light was right on the mark. Coffee + homemade biscotti = heaven!!So Friday was busy. I was snake shopping for Ken's sister. Long story short, she needed an exact replacement for an albino corn snake. So I went to a few pet stores in the area, some not in the area, and got to play with lots of baby snakes!!! I located what I thought may be a match in the Eatontown Petco (the first place I went :/ ), and when his sister came to investigate, it turned out it was!! So I feel good being able to help. I also bought a couple live pinkies (newborn mice) to try to feed to Maizie. We tried frozen pinkies a few months ago, but they were huge and she turned her nose up at them. The live ones I got were much tinier. And Maizie liked them!!! So if we can get her to eat frozen ones (because finding live ones are a bitch) we'll be set. It shouldn't be too hard, once she recognizes them as food (like she did the live ones). Yesterday was a lazy day. Woke up, farted around for a while, then took a two hour nap. Ken took me to this really nice Chinese restaraunt for dinner. It was definitely nice to get out of the house for the night. Then we rented Old School and watched that. Really funny movie. Last week, Ken sat me down and had me watch the whole Star Wars trilogy, since I'd never seen it before. So while we were out last night, he bought Spaceballs. It was a shame, though, that I'd already seen Spaceballs, before I saw Star Wars. So whenever I'd see Darth Vadar and his masses wearing the black helmets, I had to think of Rick Moranis as Lord Helmet and could not keep a straight face. And now, I'm going to hop in the shower and prepare for the trip down to Toms River to visit my Nana.

Boredom=Pics

So yeah, Ken's at the parents' house doing laundry. In my bored stupor, I stumbled across the camera and put it to use. My forehead is huge...This is where it gets just adorable. This is Maizie crushing her little brother TrodgorAnd now to shatter the illusion, no makeup and shitty lighting...I don't know whether to laugh or cry...I scored a 84% on the "How Jackson Are You?" Quizie! What about you?</b>And now I'm going to go make some coffee, and add some Bailey's to it. I just realized I haven't had that in so long.
Everybody will be happy to know that the biscotti came out pretty good this time around!! I was feeling incredibly productive and also made herbed corn muffins and these rosemary oats dinner rolls. The rolls came out good, but they were a pain in the ass. And I haven't tried the muffins yet. I'm trying to save them for Ken's breakfast. So, due to popular demand, the biscotti recipie is behind the cut. I'll post the corn muffin one tomorrow, after I actually get to try one. It's out of Weight Watchers Simply Delicious cookbook. (And before everyone starts with, "Ohmigod, you're a stick, you don't need Weight Watchers", well a) I'm not a stick, I just dress to hide that fact : ), andb) Ken's the one on Weight Watchers. Since we live together, it forces me to eat better.)Espresso Biscotti *EDIT* They're not going to come out very large. They come out bite-sized, almost.2 1/4 cups flour 1 cup sugar2 TB ground coffee 2 large eggs2 tsp baking powder 3 TB strong brewed coffee1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp vanilla extract1/4 tsp saltPreheat oven to 350. Spray 2 baking sheets with nonstick spray.Combine flour, ground coffee, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Whisk the sugar, eggs, brewed coffee, and vanilla extract in a separate smaller bowl till frothy. Add the sugar mixture to the flour mixture; stir till just blended.Gather the dough with lightly floured hands and transfer to lightly floured surface. Divide dough in two and work each into a 1 3/4 x 15 inch log about 1 inch high. Transfer the logs to the baking sheetsand pat down till about 1/4 inch high and 2 inches wide.Bake logs until firm to the touch, about 20-25 minutes. (*EDIT* this is where I think i went wrong last night. I cooked them for 25 minutes, and they were still soft. Today I ended up baking them for 30 minutes at least.) Transfer to a cutting board and let cool 5 minutes. With a serrated knife, cut into 1/4 inch think slices, making 72 biscotti. (*EDIT* I didn't actually count them, but I know I didn't get as many as 72.) Arrange slices in a single layer on baking sheets.Reduce oven temperature to 300. Bake biscotti 10 minutes, then turn over and bake until very dry to the touch and slightly crisp, about 10 minutes longer. Transfer biscotti to a rack and cool completely. They will crisp as they cool.

It was the cutest thing

  • Nov. 19th, 2009 at 3:01 PM
It was the cutest thing!! My baby Trogdor caught a fly this morning!! I was having my coffee, and I looked over at the lizards, and a fly was buzzing around the little one. If I blinked I would have missed it, but the fly got real close to his nose, and he caught the thing! I wish Ken had seen it, he'd get a kick out of it. I guess you had to be there to appreciate how friggin cute it was.The biscotti didn't come out great. The middles wouldn't cook all the way through, so they're chewy instead of crunchy. I'm going to try again today, though. BTW, did you know they're putting chamomile in toilet paper now?

Wheee

  • Nov. 10th, 2009 at 7:08 AM
Wheee. So I'm making espresso biscotti right now. The name is a misnomer, though. It doesn't actually have espresso in it, just lots of coffee. Well, the dough tastes good, dammit! WHile I'm waiting to turn the little suckers over, here's a quick update.I cannot wait for it to be officially autumn. I'm in my glory right now because it hasn't been past 70 degrees all day. Yeah, it also rained all day, but it's definitely getting me in the mood for fall. Last night Kenny mentioned going apple picking later this month, and maybe going to haunted hayrides. EEEEE! I love doing stuff like that! I just found a new lowfat apple strudel recipe, and I'm sure there's tons more lowfat recipies for apple stuff. And hayrides are just awesome. I am so ready for fall.Time to go check on the biscotti!

Well, duh.

Your clan is a dysfunctional one. That is because you are a Malkavian. Something is poisonous about this clan's blood that drives all those embraced to madness. However, in this madness, you tend to have great insight. Unfortunately, people just take it as senseless ramblings. In every family there is an insane one. You're it.What Vampire Clan Do You Belong To?
The Malkavians At first glance, the members of Clan Malkavian do not appear to be a clan at all; they are chosen from all races, creeds and social strata. But Malkavians, regardless of mortal standing, bear one disturbing commonality: They are all quite mad. Whether from the clan's choice of victims, the circumstances of the Embrace, or some property in Malkavian blood itself, all Malkavians go insane shortly after the transformation (if they were not insane to begin with). Accordingly, many Malkavians find themselves pariahs, ostracized by a vampiric society fearful of their random urges and capricious whims. Wiser Kindred, however, prefer to keep the madmen close at hand: Behind the Malkavians' lunatic cackling and feverish rantings lie smatterings of insight, even wisdom.

If you haven't already tried the new Schick Intuition razor (the one where you don't need shaving cream to use), don't!! I tried it yesterday, and I had stubble ten minutes after I shaved. Also, after you use it once, the blade gets all filmy and icky. Since I'm blessed with mostly my father's genes (read: thick, coarse, black body hair that makes shaving more like weedwhacking), I'm really anal about having a clean blade. I guess it's cool, however, because not having to apply shaving gel cuts down on time. And I'm not buying another razor because this one cost me a whopping seven dollars. I'll learn to deal, I suppose. *sigh*You know, if this was the only issue I had to deal with, I'd be so happy.

Yes

  • Oct. 25th, 2009 at 5:51 PM
Yes, I'm aware that it's been a few days since I last updated. Call it a combination of being really busy and nothing going on at all. (In other words, I'm really frigging lazy.) Friday was interview day. I rescheduled PetSmart for this Wednesday, but I'm not to keen on it. I happen to know their dress code is way too restrictive for my lifestyle (i.e. no visible tattoos), and they give that certain test. Yeah. They give you a piss test, because you know, you can't be all high while you're cleaning up dog crap. I'm sorry, even if I didn't smoke, drug tests are waaaay too invasive. I could understand if you were applying for like, a pharmacy tech job, where drugs are readily available. But frigging PetSmart??? At any rate, WalGreens wants me to work Saturdays, so that one's on the back burner. The promotions company, however, looks promising. I should find out about that one by Wednesday. I will, however, check out PetCo (yeah, we have both in this area) tomorrow. I'm always upset at the lack of reptile knowledge the reptile employees have, which is why I'd love a job there. Other than that, Saturday I did absolutely nothing. Yesterday I went down to Toms River to visit Nana, now that she's home from Aunt Jane's. Saw Dad, he came over on the Harley. Apparantly my sister rescued a kitten during work last week (she's an animal cop in Bergen County), and it's eyes just opened two days ago. And my dad's thinking of taking it. Dad's always been a dog person, so this surprises me. I'd love to take it, but Ken's allergies wouldn't tolerate it, and besides, in this tiny apartment the litter box would have the whole place ripe within two days. Furthermore, I think I'm having more luck campaigning for a ball python. Those snakes are so neat! So last night I was up waiting for Ken to come home, and I made a couple new icons. And I'm quite pleased with them. And today...woke up around one in the afternoon, I just took my shower, and it's looking like another lazy day. I don't mind at all, though. I'm in a half-way decent mood for once, and am just happy being home with Kenny and farting around the house. Have no clue what to do for dinner yet, though. Maybe I can talk him into Red Lobster. That'd be awesome.

Damn dinner came out good tonight! I'm hoping there's leftovers left, 'cause I'm getting hungry, like I usually do before bed.So tomorrow I have my interviews. Petsmart, Walgreens, and a promotions company in Brick. I'm crossing my fingers for the latter, because they pay $10 an hour. Sooooo...tomorrow I'm getting up early (lately, "early" for me in 9 or 10) to work my magick. I'm thinking chrysoprase, because the stone is used for prosperity, success, new endeavors, etc. And orange oil, because that too is used for success. And my lucky fire opal, because when I carry that, it always seems to psych me up. So now my only problem is what to wear to these damn things. The only shirts I own that I'll be comfy in the heat in show the tattoo on my arm. I am not wearing long sleeves in 90 degree weather. *sigh* Don't get me wrong, I don't regret any one of my tattoos, but some of them are a royal pain in the ass when it comes to hiding them. And I don't have the patience to cover them up with makeup or any of that stuff. Hopefully, I'll decide on a decent outfit by tomorrow.I'm actually going to bed now, so I'll be more likely to wake up early. And I almost forgot...You are the element of wind. For someone with no job and no life

  • Oct. 19th, 2009 at 12:41 PM
For someone with no job and no life, I've spent waaaay too much time away from home! Tuesday I went to meet up with Matt, my sister's boyfriend. I've known the kid for almost 5 years, and I hooked the two of them up four years ago. They've been on and off ever since, and this particular time they were off. So I went down to Brick and took him to the Tampon Diner (yeah, it's named the OB Diner) in Point Pleasant. Listened to him whine for a while, talked him into going to a job interview that was yesterday, and he talked me into seeing an old friend's band that night. So I ended up at the Stone Pony Tuesday night. Little Jay's band, Red Light District, was not bad at all. It's really tough to impress me when it comes to music, because just about everything's been done. But they did. They did a kick ass cover of Sublime's "What I Got" that totally rocked. I was in the front row dancing through their whole set, Matt tried to get a mosh pit going...but the rest of the crowd sucked! Just stood there staring. I didn't let it ruin my time, though. The after party was held at the bassist's house, and it was a huge waste of my time. No decent beer, no trees, and it was one huge sausage fest. Me, Matt, and Matt Nielsen were extremely pissed that we drove all the way out to Ramtown for a shit party. So we all left after like, a half hour.Yesterday I drove Matt to his interview at Best Buy. It was the damndest thing...I was at Matt's place in Brick for like three minutes, then all of a sudden the sky turned pitch black. I went outside to close my car windows and the wind picked up something fierce, blowing dirt and tumbleweeds *snicker* all over the place. Then the sky opened up and it poured for about 10 minutes. After that the sky was clear and it was like nothing happened. Except for all the traffic lights that went out, which made the normal rotten traffic in Brick 20 times more aggravating. At any rate, if Matt can pass a certain test, he's got the job, which kicks ass. So Sam took him back, and they're living happily ever after. For now.To end the day yesterday, I met up with my grandmother in a bar! She was staying with her sister in Tinton Falls, the next town over from me, and Aunt Jane and my cousin Jim go to the Pour House every night. They bring Nana along when she's staying with them. So I met up with them, and actually enjoyed myself quite a bit. Nana's so cute, she had her shirt on backwards all day, and only realized it when Jim said something to her in the Pour House parking lot. So she was sitting next to me at the bar, and I kept my cigarettes in her shirt pocket that was actually on her back. And today...I relaxed a little. Set up a couple job interviews for tomorrow, which I'm trying to get psyched about. I'm better than I was, though. Something tells me it's about frigging time to do a working about this. I'll post the details about it later. And now I'm off to get ready to make dinner. It's going to be Linguini Verde. It's linguini with fresh watercress, arugula, and basil in olive oil. Laters.
They should really tack on an extra day to the weekend.Saturday I went down to Toms River to visit with Nana. It's normally a 45 minute drive, but once I got on the parkway (at 2 in the afternoon), it was a frigging mess! I'm at exit 105, it took a half hour to get thru the tolls, then to exit 102, where I got off. Fuck that noise, I took backroads through Wall, Jackson, Lakehurst, Manchester...and got to Nana's in an hour and a half. I didn't bring my laundry with me, so we just chatted for a few hours. She's getting more and more depressed, whether she wants to admit it or not. She knows she's not isolated, because my Dad sees her a few times a week, I call her almost every day, her sister calls her every day, etc, etc...but what do you say to someone who's outlived all her friends? I wouldn't even know where to begin. Her health isn't getting any better either...her breathing sucks, she's overweight, she's diabetic (she doesn't really monitor it though...at her age what's the point), and it's a pain in the ass for her to go out and do anything. *sigh* At any rate, at least we had a nice visit. I went home, loafed around for a while, ordered pizza for dinner, then drove up to North Plainfield to meet up with Kenny and the Distant Mirror gang. Good times, his friends are hysterical.Today my Aunt Jane (Nana's sister) had a get-together at her place. I brought Kenny with me and got to see all the relatives that I only see at Xmas once a year. Aunt Jane just got a Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppy, who's adorable. My Uncle Rob and Aunt Patti from Hawthorne brought their new Golden Retriever puppy, who's also adorable. And when you put the two together, watch them wrestle for a while...it's just too cute for words. Dad seems to be doing better, 2 days after putting his beloved Butch down. The puppies lifted his spirits a bit. The weather was gorgeous, too. It was so beautiful out today. As a matter of fact, I'm sitting upstairs at the computer, where it's always hot as hell...and I'm a little chilly! Autumn had better hurry up and get here pronto. I miss all the pretty colors on the trees, I miss Samhain, I miss my beloved New York Giants, I miss the clean crisp autumn air...and my birthday, too!!!So now I'm home. Kenny's downstairs playing Grand Theft Auto 4, and I don't know, I'm in an odd mood for some reason. I'm not morbidly depressed, but I'm not happy either. Limbo sucks. I should really start job hunting this week. And I will. Also gotta welcome rednetra, ladythor, and edeniell. Time to make some tea and crash on the bed in front of the TV.

According to Nana

  • Oct. 10th, 2009 at 2:08 AM
According to Nana, Dad's finally going to have Butch put down today. I love Dad, and I love my dog, but it's about frigging time!! Butch is 15, three-quarters blind, can't walk (if he does walk, he's leaning up against a wall or something), doesn't eat, and can't make it out of the house in time to use the bathroom. He's been this way for 4 months now. But you have to understand my dad. He always treated his dogs as well as or better than my sister and I. And he gets very attached, understandably. I do too. I couldn't stand to see the dog suffer, though. And if you tried to tell my dad this, he'd come up with fifty reasons why Butch's quality of life hadn't declined that much yet. So it was like, whatever, he has to make the decision on his own. And he did. So I may be driving down to Howell later on to check on Dad, see how he is.Ken downloaded the whole soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto 4, and organized them by radio station. Soooo...I've been listening to VROCK all day, and I realized I need to start listening to Megadeth again!! That music pumps me up so much. And Iron Maiden. And Twisted Sister. I miss all that!I colored my hair yesterday, and am quite impressed with it. So I'm posting pics of it. Also a pic of the babies (couldn't resist)! That's all for now, I'm too lazy to upload more right now.

Update on my sister

  • Oct. 6th, 2009 at 9:53 PM
Update on my sister: the brakes to her truck were slashed...and when she took it to the mechanic, he said it looked like the brakes were rotted through. At any rate, the big ugly blue F-150 is on the road again, it's all fixed. As for her bike...she has a good idea of who egged it. Apparantly Sam's taken a liking to some kid in the apartment complex where she lives, and has been loaning her bike to him. The kid has few enemies, so she's narrowed it down to them. And guess what? This was the guy that totalled her bike this morning. At first he tried to get her to not call her insurance company and to take the rap for it, because apparantly his license was suspended as of yesterday. She was like fuck that, and shit got taken care of this morning. Fortunately she had full coverage on it, so she'll at least recieve a check that she plans to put down on a car. And she's happy that she doesn't have to deal with all this plus Matt. She feels worse for hurting him, but she feels like a weight's been lifted of her shoulders by breaking up with him. Yes, Matt's a friend of mine. I fixed the two of them up almost 5 years ago. But I can totally she where she's coming from. The kid's been on unemployment for 4 months now, has no car, no license, and Sam usually ends up paying most of his bills for him. At any rate, Sam's life is sucking a bit less now, which is good.Oh, and how am I doing? I'm hanging in there. I had an emotional day right from the start. I've been going back and forth about going back to school. (Read this for a little background.) And I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to wait until the spring semester to start. Although I have no job at this point, I'll be looking for one and that can be a pain in the ass. Once the insurance check comes in, I'll be able to get a new car. But there's shit I have to take care of before I can even do that. I just don't feel up to taking school on. I still have doubts about myself and my abilities as well. It's going to take a little more time and repetition to get them out of my head. So I'm actually optimistic right now. I talked with Ken, got lots and lots of reassurance, and despite myself, I'm forcing myself to look on the bright side. I've got a pint of Haagen Daaz waiting for me downstairs, too. That always helps. :p South Park is almost on, too! Also, gotta welcome sisterdark, _infection, and candles_light! Trust me, I'm not always this negative. Some good has got to be coming soon. It has to.

Yeah, this is cute...

So I got up 10 minutes ago. Sammy was supposed to call when she got onto the parkway, around 9 or so. She never called, so I call her. Apparantly she's not coming down because (I was half-asleep, but I think I got it all) someone egged her motorcycle, cut her brakelines (I'm pretty sure the bike's brakes...could be her truck), then her friend borrowed the bike and crashed it into an 18-wheeler. Jesus H.So I'm not going to get to see her today. and I have to return the loaner car today, so it's not like I can just drive up to Mahwah and help her out. However, out of the two of us, Samantha's the strong one, so she'll be okay, eventually. I need to go make coffee now.

I just broke off the knob to the air conditioner, so I can't turn it on. I'm covered in a film of sweat as I write this. (And I just showered, dammit!)Had a pretty productive day. I did three loads of wash, mine and Ken's combined, got it all folded and put away, changed Queen Lance's water, and made wine poached chicken with tarragon cream for dinner. Don't ask me where the sudden burst of energy came from. But I'm on a roll.Sammy broke up with Matt. Again. And she's still not getting along with her roommate. So she's going to stop by tomorrow morning on her way to Jackson Rite-Aid to get her prozac. Seeing how I'm having such great luck with my life, maybe I can help Sam fix hers.In other news, we found out today that the car is totalled. The check we'll be getting will be more than enough for an older model Honda. So there is some good, I suppose. We have to return the loaner car tomorrow, so I'll be minus a car again, until I get a new one. Now I'm off to find more food. I'm debating hitting 7-11 again for ice cream, but I know I'll end up eating the whole pint--like I did last night. *sigh* Before I go, if you can't stand Silver Raevenwolf, like me, then this link will give you plenty of reasons not to like her.
